I’ve driven past this big sign a few times now. It’s in Pine Castle, just a few yards from where Olde Dixie Fried Chicken used to be.
It’s an ad from a company that will come pump out your septic tank and another company that’ll fix your roof. Then, there’s this seemingly random bit at the bottom.
I am baffled! I called both A-1 Septic and Gold Key Roofing. They both say they don’t offer root beer floats – and also don’t know what sign I’m talking about. This is in the parking lot of the Pine Castle Woman’s Club, which you can rent for meetings and parties. The nice woman who answered the phone there also didn’t know what I was talking about. She gave me the number of the club president and I’m waiting for a call back. I mean, come on, A&W Root Beer Floats!
UPDATE – I got a voicemail from Gail Padgett, president of The Pine Castle Woman’s Club. She says the signs are all to recognize companies that have donated goods and services – and A&W All American Food brings root beer floats to the quarterly meetings of the Pine Castle Historical Society. She also says the signs were scheduled to be there for six months and should be coming down soon.
